The Jeanie Jo & Joanna Project Recipe 3 of 312.
This recipe reminds me of Beans and Ham-hocks except these were not tasteless, this was surprisingly delicious and a perfect pairing with the cornbread as mentioned in the cookbook.

I will note that I soaked these beans over night and found they did not need the full 3 hours of cooking as stated. I checked them each time I stirred to ensure they would not become too soft.
I recently read about the history of Black Eyed Peas and how it became tradition to eat them on New Years Day for good luck. So I was ecstatic to find a recipe which included these beans to serve on this holiday. This will be a new January 1st tradition in our family.
My husband gave them a four (because of the pork shoulder) 🌻🌻🌻🌻
My daughter not being a big meat eater also gave it a four (because I gave dad most of the pork) 🌻🌻🌻🌻
I give it a five for its simplicity and fond memories of my childhood. 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
